Two sisters reunite on the anniversary of the death of their father.
Their uncle has remodelled their family home, in an attempt at a fresh start. But one sister’s sudden reappearance threatens to shatter this fragile idyll as she demands justice for the pain she carries.
Amid the debris and the new extension, guilt, grief and greed battle it out in the family’s competing dreams of their future. When we are faced with the suffering of others, even those closest to us, can we look away?
Alexander Zeldin (The Confessions; Faith, Hope and Charity) directs his new play, with music by Yannis Philippakis (Foals).
Cast includes Emma D’Arcy (House of the Dragon), Alison Oliver (Saltburn), Tobias Menzies (The Crown) and Nina Sosanya (Love Actually).
Alexander Zeldin’s research for The Other Place was supported by Onassis AiR.
With thanks to the Areté Foundation, who support the National Theatre to make work that is ambitious and socially relevant.
Performed Until 9 November 2024 in the Lyttelton Theatre.
Please note: This production contains loud music. It includes explicit language, themes of death, depictions of physical assault, disturbing sexual content, and graphic references to suicide that some may find distressing.
