Alvin Jackson, editor of the Oxford Handbook of Modern Irish History and author of Judging Redmond and Carson: Comparative Irish Lives, will guide you through 19th-century Ireland, giving historical context to Brian Friel's Translations which is playing in the Olivier.

Alvin Jackson is Sir Richard Lodge Professor of History at Edinburgh University and an honorary member of the Royal Irish Academy.
