Have an inspirational day at the National Theatre

Performances are only a part of the National Theatre experience. The National Theatre is bursting with ways to connect professional theatre-making with all different subjects' curriculums.

  • On a backstage tour our knowledgeable and friendly guides will lead you through the backstage areas of the theatre. Following in the footsteps of the greatest actors and directors of the last 35 years they will reveal the secrets that bring our productions to the stage

  • A visit to the National Theatre Archive is a chance for your students to see a past production that will support their study. To arrange for a free private video screening of productions from the National Theatre's back catalogue please email archive@nationaltheatre.org.uk

  • Visit free exhibitions during National Theatre opening hours. Exhibitions are presented in the Lyttelton Lounge (Lyttelton theatre circle foyer) and the Wolfson Gallery (Olivier theatre cloakroom level).

  • The Sherling Backstage Walkway offers visitors views into our busy production workshops for set construction and assembly, scenic painting and prop-making. See productions being created before they reach the stage.

Staging around 25 productions of new plays and classics from the world repertoire each year and with consistently high production values, the National Theatre is the place to experience live theatre that your students will always remember.
