Zoe Murtagh
Zoe directed A is for Amy for Changing Relations and was Assistant Director on A Midsummer Night’s Dream for Not Too Tame, Shakespeare North Playhouse and Northern Stage. She is a Creative Associate for the RSC’s First Encounters project and was previously Northern Stage’s Director Mentor for the RSC Playmaking Festival.
Her first short film After the Break was written through the BFI Script Lab programme before a reading at Royal Exchange Manchester. She then directed the film through BBC New Creatives with Tyneside Cinema, BBC Arts and Arts Council England before it was featured as part of BBC 4’s Female Filmmakers Too programming series before becoming available on BBC iPlayer.
She is a Freelance Artist at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Arts and New Writing North and in 2021 was part of the BBC North East Voices scheme.
Zoe was the recipient of Northern Stage’s Title Pending Award for New Theatre in 2016 and in 2017 was the recipient of a JMK Assistant Directors Award, Leverhulme Arts Scholarship and Curious Festival Arts Bursary. In 2018 Zoe was part of BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Words First Showcase. She has also made work for Live Theatre, Camden People’s Theatre and Lumiere Festival as well as for schools, festivals and online.
