Simon McBurney

For the National:

Simon McBurney is an actor, writer and director and co-founder of Complicité. His work across genres and media, from radio to cinema to live performance is constantly collaborative, unclassifiable and highly influential.

Mnemonic was born out of his intimate collaboration with the critic and writer John Berger, with whom he worked for 25 years.

Upon the death of the actress Katrin Cartlidge, with whom he first created Mnemonic, together with members of the original cast and several others, he set-up a foundation in her name. Mike Leigh, Cat Villers and several others were also co-founders.

She was 41 when she died in 2002.

This foundation has awarded substantial bursaries to young artists in need of support all over the world. From Haiti to Gaza, the awards have been used to found schools, support the work of young filmmakers, and help initiate the careers of many. It has been given out each year at the Sarajevo film festival with which her career was long associated.

This revival is dedicated to her memory.
