Jon Beney
Co-Artistic director and founder of Tenfoot Dance Company, Jon trained at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. As well as setting up his own company Y Dance, he has performed with Virtual Motion Dance Co, dans connect (Swindon Dance) and Ballet Lorent and Protein dance touring national and international. He has taught extensively in the UK, working with Dance United teaching dance in criminal justice settings and working with hard to reach young people , University of Central Lancashire and York St John’s University.
He has worked as a mass movement director with choreography for the rugby league opening ceremony 2013 and the challenge cup finals 2014, 2015 and 2016. Has led education projects for phoenix dance company International work includes projects with the Aduna Dance Group in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) group working with disabled and abled body dancers and the Lajee Center (Palestine).
Jon performed in Protein’s International Dance Festival Birmingham 2010 production of (In)visible Dancin’ and again in the summer of 2012. He also performed in LOL (lots of love) in 2012, and has coled two residencies in Protein’s Real Life Real Dance programme. Jon also works as a movement director on a number of theatre productions, is a mentor to new emerging artists and carries the role of an associate artist with Hull Truck Theatre. Co-choreography and artistic directorship of Yira and The Way We Were.
