Gavin Sutherland is a conductor, composer, arranger and pianist. He was Music Director of English National Ballet for 15 years.

Gavin Sutherland graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Huddersfield.

Other theatre includes: arrangements of many full-length ballets for ENB and others, numerous dance shows for Raymond Grubbay and multiple arrangement and orchestrations for all BBC orchestras and others worldwide

 

Throughout his career, Gavin Sutherland has guest conducted the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Scottish Opera, Bayerischer Staatsballett, the Royal Swedish Ballet, Finnish National Ballet, the Royal Ballet of Flanders, New National Ballet of Japan and Norwegian National Ballet among others.

In 2019, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the University of Huddersfield and in 2020, he received the Critics’ Circle National Dance Award for Outstanding Creative Contribution.
