At the age of 24, I was still unsure as to which career path I wanted to take. A friend of mine had seen the post for a Health and Safety Traineeship at the National Theatre and as she knew I had always been interested in performing arts, she forwarded me the details.
I had previous experience in health and safety and thought it would be a great opportunity to develop those particular skills in an industry that I have always had a passion for.
During the 15 months of the traineeship, I will be trained by the National Theatre’s Health and Safety department. I have already taken and passed my NEBOSH National General Certificate which I took as part of an intensive, two-week training course.
What I enjoy the most about working at the National Theatre is the fact that I never know what the day has in store; I’m constantly faced with new challenges which make each day, and generally the whole experience, exciting. Also, I like that there is such a wonderful sense of community within the organisation and I was instantly made to feel like a part of the team.
Although I was quite nervous to start off with, I have a great network of staff that support me throughout my training and are always available for a chat.
